Nauvoo service for Smiths Monday

NAUVOO, Ill. — Nauvoo will hold a service of remembrance to commemorate the lives of Joseph and Hyrum Smith Monday.

The half-hour service at the Smith Family Cemetery on the corner of Main and Water streets is at 12:15 p.m.

The speaker will be Wallace B. Smith, great grandson of Joseph Smith. Stephen Deazey, new president and prophet of the Community of Christ, will offer the closing prayer.

The Nauvoo Brass Band and missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will perform as part of the service.

Joseph and Hyrum Smith died on June 27, 1844. Joseph Smith was the founder and prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The LDS Church will celebrate the 200th anniversary of Joseph's birth by having the New Nauvoo Pageant July 8-Aug. 8.
