About 500 miles of state-managed roads are listed in a "priority one" category for their potential for transfer. Priority one means the roads "clearly" do not belong on the state system, according to state code.

Of Utah's 29 counties, 24 have at least a segment of road on the prioritized list. Both Brent Gardner with the Utah Association of Counties and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon say the list affects rural counties more than the urban.

"We don't have a big problem with the roads," said Corroon. "It really is more of an issue with the rural counties."

To view the prioritized list, visit www.dot.state.ut.us/. Under the heading "Hot Items" is a link labeled "Road Jurisdiction Study." Click on that link.
