  • Murray bought an $8,000 card key access system for its City Hall.

  • Salt Lake City spent $125,000 on a study of "point vulnerability access," in other words, a study on what could be hit by terrorists and how to protect it.

  • Sandy spent $32,500 for a court building security system.

The money didn't only go to local governments. Special service districts received some, too.

The Jordan Valley Water District in Salt Lake County, for example, received $2,475 to "maintain and secure" its data systems.

Finally, even the smallest police departments or counties received something.

Even though officials of Hildale, Washington County — home of a polygamist group — have been under fire recently for their lifestyles, the Hildale Police Department bought one laptop computer for $2,000.
