Sandy officials have been quiet about their exact location for a stadium. The city has said that it may use $20 million to construct a parking structure that would be used jointly by the existing Expo Center (roughly at 9400 South and State) and the proposed stadium.
But to share the structure, the stadium would have to be close to the Expo Center, which is surrounded by a high school to the south, Jordan Commons to the north, houses to the east and an office complex for BD Medical on the west. At the northwest corner, however, there is 20.6 acres of land for sale by the trustee of a family estate.
That trustee, who did not want to be named, wholeheartedly supported the soccer stadium in Sandy.
"I have young grandchildren who are growing up and they have a hard time finding places to play," the trustee said. "There's nothing else in the world I'd rather see than this. This is a beautiful piece of land. There's nothing I'd rather see go in here."
