"The Golden Plates: The Liahona and the Promised Land," the second of writer/artist Michael Allred's graphic novel adaptations of the Book of Mormon, is in stores now.

Allred, an Oregon-based comics artist, is planning 12 volumes in "Golden Plates." He describes himself as a faithful member of the LDS Church, saying, "There's no way I would ever take liberty with these stories."

The first in the series, "The Sword of Laban and the Tree of Life," sold out locally within days of its release in October, though most stores have restocked it since then.

"The Liahona and the Promised Land" sells for $7.99 and is available at most comic book stores, including Dr. Volt's Comic Connection in Holladay and Fantasy Rules in Pleasant Grove. For more information, visit Allred's Web site at www.aaapop.com.
