UDOT, lawmakers discuss feasibility of 14 toll roads

Leaders debate whether project will help solve traffic problems

Next week, UDOT will begin a feasibility study of HOT lanes on I-15. The study will include public comment and participation.

"We need to see whether this gives us a choice," said Hudachko. "We need to decide how receptive people are to this idea. Obviously we don't want to spend our time and energy and money building a facility nobody is going to use."

Other roads in the state that could be tolled, or utilize HOT and reversible lanes include the St. George Northern Corridor, U-6 from I-70 to I-15, U-68 from Nephi to Salt Lake County, U-186 from I-215 to 1300 East and U-73 from the Mountain View Corridor to I-15.

The Bangerter Highway, parts of I-215 and I-80 could be likely candidates for reversible lanes, which means during peak traffic hours, lanes that typically handle one direction of traffic could be reversed to handle the additional capacity.
