Valentine also wants the special session agenda to include more money to cover a pay raise for the Utah Highway Patrol on top of the 2.5 percent cost-of-living raise troopers have already received.

Apparently, even though lawmakers last session approved giving the troopers a two-step bump on the UHP pay scale, there wasn't enough money for everyone eligible to receive the salary boost.

The Senate president also said he's pushing to have the agenda include revisiting a bill that would make it easier for cities to annex property owned in another jurisdiction, an issue facing Cedar Hills and about 20 other communities in the state.

And Valentine is asking for a chance to reconsider creating a new Transportation Improvement Fund. A bill establishing the fund, which would have earmarked millions of sales tax dollars for roads over the next decade, failed in the Senate the final minutes of the session.
