What is the Legacy Parkway?

Legacy is a 14-mile highway stretching from North Salt Lake to Farmington. The road is designed as an alternative to I-15 in Davis County.

Why hasn't it been built?

Environmentalists have opposed the roadway since its conception in 1996 as the Legacy Highway. In 2001, the Sierra Club, Utahns for Better Transportation and Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson filed a successful lawsuit that halted construction of the road. The Utah Department of Transportation was told to review five environmental impacts of the road.

When will it be built?

A draft supplemental environmental study of the road was released in December. Public comment is currently being accepted, after which a final environmental study will be completed and the study will be brought to court for review. If there are no court challenges, UDOT expects to begin construction in early 2006.
