The Utah House and Senate on Monday honored the nine Utahns killed in action overseas in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Army Sgt. Mason Douglas Whetstone, 30, Ogden; Army Staff Sgt. Alan L. Rogers, 49, Kearns; Army Capt. Nathan S. Dalley, 27, Sandy; Marine Lance Cpl. Cesar F. Machado-Olmos, 20, Spanish Fork; Marine Staff Sgt. James Cawley, 41, Roy; Marine Lance Cpl. Michael J. Allred, 22, Hyde Park; Army Staff Sgt. Nino Dugue Livaudais, 23, Ogden; Marine Cpl. Matthew R. Smith, 24, West Valley City; and Army Spc. David Goldberg, 20, Layton.

A number of members of the families of those killed attended the reading of the citation, along with a poem, in the House Chambers. They stepped forward from the other family members as their loved one's names were read. The House members and staff stood in honor of those killed.

House Speaker Greg Curtis, R-Sandy, choked up as he thanked the families while a number of House members and guests openly cried.
