Utah government scandals timeline
Nov. 28, 2004 During a routine employee review, a longtime Orem city employee confesses to stealing $50,000 from the fitness center. Investigators believe the amount is closer to $215,000. The Utah County Attorney's Office is currently screening the case for possible charges.
Sept. 7, 2004 Former Salt Lake County Mayor Nancy Workman is charged with two counts of misusing public monies for allegedly using public money to hire an employee to work for her daughter at a private, nonprofit group.
Aug. 27, 2004 The Iron County sheriff faces charges of six felonies and three misdemeanor counts involving allegations of theft, misuse of public funds, witness tampering, altering or destroying public records and obstruction of justice.
Aug. 26, 2004 Former Salt Lake County Auditor Craig Sorensen pleads guilty to misuse of public money after admitting to stealing at least $8,600 on the county gas card. His sentence included 10 days of jail time.
Jan. 1, 2004 Former Springdale town manager is charged with misusing public money and embezzling more than $150,000 from city coffers.
March 7, 2003 A former Tabiona town clerk is charged with funneling $100,000 from the town's coffers over a span of four years.
A discussion about ethics in government with a couple of high-profile local leaders will be held at Utah Valley State College Wednesday.
Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon and Utah County Commissioner Steve White will speak on accountability in government. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at 11 a.m. in Room LC243 in the school library.
