Rock on . . .
Regarding the Kentucky-Tennessee basketball game last week, ESPN's Rick Majerus said he hoped to spot movie star/UK fan Ashley Judd. That way, he said, he wouldn't "have to watch adult videos back at the hotel."
When he coached at Utah, Majerus was known for having six VCRs in his hotel room.
Boy, do I feel stupid. I thought he was just watching game film.
A new champ
Speaking of Majerus, his culinary successor could be just around the corner.
Arena Football League commissioner David Baker is a rather robust fellow, too. Enough so that he recently told The Denver Post, "I've got one of those scales that gives an audio response, and this morning it said, 'Come back when you're not in your car.' "
With Arena Football scheduled to come to Utah next year, maybe it's time for some closure. So long, Big Rick. Hello, David Baker.
Oh, and by the way, can we get a side of onion rings with that?
Delayed reaction
He asked his players, flat out, if any of them want to be traded.
How come he didn't do that when Greg Ostertag was around?
Night owl special
With the Utah-BYU game behind us, let's hope those 10 p.m. Big Monday (or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) games are history.
Besides, the only sports made for that hour are poker and pro wrestling.
But the best late-night sports for my money: Reruns of "The Longest Yard."
OK. . . Javier
The New York Post says a source recently overheard a gloomy Peyton Manning in Cabo San Lucas, telling waiters, "This week, I am known as Javier Lopez."
Whatever you want, Pey, er, Javier.
Just remember to look out for the Patriots. Whatever your name is.
Yes, dear
Manning's wife reportedly told him she'd put the restaurant bill on her credit card, since it's the same account. His distracted reply: "Believe me, I know."
Wow. You mean to say multimillionaire athletes aren't listening to what their wives are saying at breakfast, either?
In the groove
Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton showed up this week with what can only be described as a road-hugging hairstyle.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. paid Hamilton to have his hair braided in the tread pattern of one of its tires.
Yeah, looked good, too.
They say it'll even improve his mileage.
