Of Swallow's total, 75 percent came from individuals with 25 percent coming from PACs and political committees. It was anticipated the national GOP would dump large sums of money into Swallow's campaign at the last minute, but that never materialized.
Swallow actually raised more money in individual contributions than Matheson, $1.11 million compared to $721,000. But Matheson's $1.08 million in PAC donations dwarfed Swallow's $242,000 in PAC money.
According to Swallow's report, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Right to Life PAC spent $313,151 in "independent expenditures" on behalf of Swallow.
Matheson's report, however, shows the NRCC shelled out another $930,501 in independent expenditures "against" Matheson.
Matheson's report also showed that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Sierra Club Political Committee, among another couple of small donors, combined to spend $753,510 on behalf of Matheson but independent of the campaign.
FEC records show Matheson has $65,328 left in his account to start preparations for 2006. Swallow, if he wants to try again, starts with $6,000 more in debt than he has cash.
Bridgewater still has a $521,185 campaign debt.
