A memorial service will be held for a Utah County boy who disappeared during Boy Scout camping trip in the High Uintas.

Garrett Bardsley disappeared Aug. 20 after leaving his father to return to camp to change his wet shoes and socks. The boy and his father were among 18 Scouts and a half-dozen adults camping at the site.

The official search ended in late August, but his family and volunteers continued to look for him until heavy snow fell several weeks ago.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Nov. 27 at the Salem Stake Center, 470 E. Salem Canal Road, and will be open to everyone, particularly those who helped look for the boy. Donations raised by Garrett's classmates will be used to build a school in a village in Ecuador.

Garrett's family will travel there over the holidays to help build the school.

A search will resume in the spring.
