Not a perfect world

Gardner Gee writes, "I cannot understand the moral soundness of forcing someone to be charitable" (Readers' Forum, Nov. 10). Much of what Mr. Gee writes is reminiscent of Ayn Rand's philosophy on life.

Personally, I cannot understand the moral soundness of forcing someone to pay the government to fight an unjust war. Why should my taxes go toward the brutal slaughter of innocents in Iraq? In a perfect world, Mr. Gee's positions would be well-founded. Sadly, we do not live in one. Even Ayn Rand understood this.
