Debate is closer this time around

Utahns divided over who won the 2nd round

Sen. Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, issued a statement after the debate saying he believes Bush is still the best choice.

"America definitely has a clear choice this election," Hatch said. "Senator Kerry seems to be living in a pre-9/11 world, and tonight's performance didn't convince those undecided in this election that he's capable of leading America through the challenges we're facing.

"President Bush has demonstrated time and again that he has the courage to meet them head-on. Kerry's great with a sound bite, but his record shows his will wavers when things get tough. Voters know now more than ever that for President Bush, leadership is more than rhetoric and he has the results to back up his word."

Donald Dunn, Utah's Democratic party chairman, however, thinks Kerry won the latest debate.

"I think Sen. Kerry certainly dominated the debate. He showed character and strength. He connected with the audience. He held Bush accountable."
