The Triad Center — a 1980s-era office complex of copper glass on the northwest border of downtown — is getting a makeover.

The center will be renovated and get a fresh new look as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints moves a Brigham Young University extension and LDS Business College there.

Still, it's unclear just what type of makeover the building will receive.

Joseph Collins with the architectural firm Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership (ZGF) said church officials didn't want him to comment on what sort of new designs were in store for the building.

A church spokesman was unavailable for comment Thursday.

But the LDS Church, which purchased the Triad complex in June, did issue a press release Thursday stating that the Corporation of the Presiding Bishopric had hired ZGF and two other firms to redesign Triad Center as a campus for the two schools.

ZGF is the same firm that designed the church's Conference Center.

The two educational institutions are expected to occupy the redesigned and remodeled center in fall 2006.
