ABC has a pair of hot new shows; CBS has only one, but it's a new 'CSI'
It's not that this comedy is unfunny it's painfully unfunny. At least when you go to the dentist you get novocaine; there's no anesthesia to help viewers get through this show.
"Center of the Universe" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 29.
CSI: NY (Wednesdays, 9 p.m., CBS/Ch. 2) begs the question do we need a third "CSI"? Probably not. But this has the makings of a good one. First and foremost, it's got Gary Sinise, an underrated actor who could be a big, big TV star. And the rest of the cast including Melina Kanakaredes ("Providence"), Eddie Cahill ("Friends"), Hill Harper, Vanessa Ferlito and Grant Albrecht is also appealing.
And the folks at "CSI" know what they're doing. Anthony Zuiker, who created the original series, will be running this one, which is good news. He will be taking a bit of a chance, however, promising we'll spend more time with the characters' personal lives than the other two "CSI" shows.
"CSI: NY" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 22.
Wife Swap (Wednesdays, 9 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4), based on the British series of the same name (and ripped off by Fox's "Trading Spouses") is ABC's latest reality show. Women from different backgrounds spend a couple of weeks in each other's homes. Week 1, they try to fit in; Week 2, they make the rules. (And, no, there's no sex involved.)
There are the predictable clashes and, hopefully, they all learn something about themselves and their families. And it's one of those shows that if you sit down and start watching it, you'll wind up watching to the end.
"Wife Swap" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 29.
life as we know it (Thursdays, 8 p.m., ABC/Ch. 4) subscribes to the theory that teenage boys think about sex, sex and more sex. And pretty much nothing else. Which the three teen boys in this show do. All the time.
Dino (Sean Faris) is the popular athletic one who's pressuring his girlfriend to have sex. Ben (Jon Foster) is the smart one who wants to have sex with his English teacher. Jonathan (Chris Lowell) is the shyest of the three who doesn't know how to handle his relationship with his friend and possible girlfriend (the incongruously cast Kelli Osbourne).
