Former Salt Laker Rachelle Kunkel finished in 9th place in springboard diving with 546.72 points
The Jazz's Carlos Boozer scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds in 22 minutes as the U.S. men's basketball team defeated previously unbeaten Spain.
Jazz point guard Carlos Arroyo played the full 40 minutes, scoring 23 points and dishing out 5 assists, and former Jazz player Jose Ortiz had 6 points and 8 rebounds in Puerto Rico's 83-70 loss to Italy.
Heather Moody of Green River, Wyo., had an assist and a steal in 65 minutes of play as the U.S. women's water polo team captured the bronze medal defeating Australia 6-5.
Rhythmic protest
They protest scores in rhythmic gymnastics, too. Upset with technical marks given to American Mary Sanders in qualifying, the U.S. team filed an inquiry with the International Gymnastics Federation seeking a review of her routines. Sanders finished 18th out of 24 gymnasts in the first of two qualifying rounds. Her 4.6 mark was lower than anyone in the field except for competitors from Australia, South Africa and Cape Verde.
Weather
The temperature reached 95 degrees under sunny skies at Olympic stadium. Today's forecast calls for occasional clouds and a high of 93.
Doping report
Under suspicion of doping, Olympic hammer throw champion Adrian Annus of Hungary retired rather than deal with what he called a campaign to manipulate test results against him. IOC officials said Annus passed a drug test, but doping control officials want additional testing.
The Ukrainian four-woman rowing team was stripped of its bronze medal after a member tested positive for a banned drug. It was the fourth medal lost over doping during the Athens Games. Hungarian weightlifter Zoltan Kovacs was also expelled for failing to provide a urine sample.
