FARMINGTON — Results of last week's bond election for the South Davis Recreation District as certified by the Davis County Commission show 18.7 percent of eligible voters in the five cities and the unincorporated county voted.

That means more people (1.5 percent) turned out for the controversial recreation district vote than voted in June's primary election. The measure passed by 249 votes, once the absentee ballots were counted.

The election was to decide if voters in the district wanted to sell general obligation bonds for $18 million to build new recreation facilities in Bountiful for use by residents in the south end of the county.

Of the five cities in the district, Bountiful, Centerville, North Salt Lake, West Bountiful and Woods Cross, North Salt Lake and West Bountiful both rejected the bond election. In North Salt Lake, 548 voters, or 60.6 percent, voted "no" while 357 or 39.4 percent voted "yes."

In West Bountiful, 245 voters, 52.7 percent, voted against the measure while 220 or 47.3 percent voted in favor of it.

Centerville residents gave the highest percentage of votes for the bond election at 54 percent or 964 votes and 825 votes against it or 46 percent.

Bountiful voters turned out in the largest number — 6,146 — with 3,217 voting "yes" (53 percent) and 2,929 voting "no" (47 percent).

Woods Cross voting broke along the same percentages as Bountiful, with 329 voting "yes" and 294 voting "no."

County election officials mailed out 167 absentee ballots and received 87 or 52 percent of them back, a normal amount.
