EPHRAIM — About five people were suffering from minor respiratory distress after a chemical spill at Wal-Mart in Ephraim Wednesday night.

The chemicals were ammonia and chlorine, which should not be mixed together, Utah Department of Health spokeswoman Jana Kettering said. Hazardous materials crews were on scene.

At press time the injured were being decontaminated in a portable station in the store's parking lot, according to Kettering.

They were going to be sent to Sanpete Valley Hospital in Mount Pleasant for treatment. "They're not allowing the people into the hospital until they finish decontaminating these individuals," IHC spokesman Daron Cowley said.
