The Smoot family of Centerville did more than just a daddy-daughter run; the whole clan came out — even 5-year-old Sammy on his bike.

Skylar, 11, and Shayla, 8, joined the running club at J.A. Taylor Elementary School last year. Each has become one of the top two runners in their age group. Synthia, 17, runs for Viewmont's cross country team, while Stan, 14, will most definitely run for the Vikes when he's old enough.

Neither parent — Sharman or Laura — can keep up with the teenagers, but Laura was quite pleased with her performance Saturday.

"I ran almost the whole race today," said Laura, who hasn't run competitively since a 10K in 1990.

From the toddlers to older runners like Hamilton and Harris, Saturday's run was all about having fun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
