S.L. Elfun Volunteers get grant to purchase books
The program's mission is to bring seventh- and eighth-grade students who currently read at least two grades below their level up to standard.
GE Elfun Volunteers is a global organization of retiree volunteers. Members in Salt Lake City have also committed to participate in the program at least one day a week.
The reading program is one of the first projects in the city's Community of Caring initiative launched by the YouthCity program and Salt Lake City School District in February.
Glendale is one of only 19 schools worldwide who were awarded by the Elfun Community Foundation.
