Art canvass
The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Utah State University, has added another new work to its permanent collection: a large scale, organic woven wire sculpture by Ruth Asawa, completed in the 1960s. Asawa, an American of Japanese descent, is well known nationally and internationally. The 21-foot-long piece greets museum visitors as they enter the facility.
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts will host another of its Fine Arts Lecture Series, "Artists of the 40th Parallel Survey," on Wednesday, July 28, at 1 p.m. in the museum's Dumke Auditorium. Bill Case, information geologist for the Utah Geological Survey, will discuss science and art of the 40th parallel survey team, which included artist Gilbert Munger, the subject of a current exhibit at the museum.
This is the Place Heritage Park will host artist author Kathy J. Hodgman for an event where the artist will sign books and paint sunflowers. Hodgman's book is based on a pioneer story explaining how sunflowers made their way across the plains. For more information, call 548-4019.
