Point guard Steve Nash seriously considered joining the Jazz before agreeing to accept an offer from the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

The newspaper quoted Nash as saying Utah "was second on his list and that he would have visited the Jazz had a deal with Phoenix not worked out."

The exact nature of Utah's interest is not known, but it is known that the Jazz did make contact with Nash's agent shortly after the NBA's summer free-agency negotiating period opened last week.

Nash agreed several days ago to sign a contract — reportedly worth a guaranteed $60 million, plus another $6 million if the sixth season is played in full — with Phoenix on Wednesday, the first day deals can actually be sealed in writing.

With Nash off the market, the Jazz on Wednesday agreed to a four-year, $16 million contract with Carlos Arroyo — their starter at the point this past season.
