SB214, for example, deals with "Obesity Lawsuits." Sponsored by Sen. Howard A. Stephenson, R-Draper, the bill enacts the "Commonsense Consumption Act" and "provides manufacturers, packers, distributors, carriers, holders, sellers, marketers, and advertisers of food with immunity from civil liability for obesity and weight gain claims."

In other words, the guy in the McDonald's drive-thru can not be sued for serving you too many Big Macs.

SB16 deals with the increasing problem of identity theft. Among other things, the "Identity Theft Amendments" bill, sponsored by Sen. Carlene M. Walker, R-Sandy, "establishes that the unauthorized possession of another person's identifying documents is a crime."

Good to know.

Anyway, I wouldn't know any of this without my copy of the Digest of Legislation — a book whose existence I was unaware of until yesterday.

"Oh, we'll give these to anyone," said Cassandra.
