Gladys Gladstone Rosenberg, who passed away last year, was this year's choice from within the U.'s School of Music.
As a former Rosenberg student and current area coordinator for the University of Utah's keyboard department, Dr. Susan Duehlmeier spoke in personal terms about her teacher: "She really took an interest in all of her students. More than just their musical development, she was involved in every aspect of their lives, and was interested and concerned and wanted to make sure we made good choices. From that aspect, she was really a parent figure for an awful lot of years."
Duehlmeier said that Rosenberg established such a reputation of excellence for herself that as Duehlmeier traveled around the country to perform or teach, she found that people knew Rosenberg's name. "She raised the level of musicianship to astounding levels. She had an amazing group of students not just pianists, but people who were remarkable in their own right. She had such an influence on people who love music for generations."
