Utah Jazz: Bulls win on buzzerbeater
Larry Hughes grabbed an offensive rebound with seconds remaining and sank a buzzer-beating jumpshot to give the Chicago Bulls a 101-100 victory at EnergySolutions Arena tonight.
C.J. Miles had just given Utah a lead with 11 seconds remaining on an offensive putback of his own.
The loss was the first at home for Utah, which fell to 9-6.
Chicago improved to 7-8 with the thrilling win.
Five players didn't dress for the game for the Jazz with injuries, including Deron Williams (ankle), Carlos Boozer (quad), Matt Harpring (back), Kyle Korver (wrist) and Jarron Collins (elbow).
Brevin Knight added (again) to the Jazz's injury woes, when he left the game in the fourth quarter with an injured left index finger.
He had his hand X-rayed after leaving with Jazz medical staff, revealing that he has a sprain. He did not return to action.
Ronnie Price found Andrei Kirilenko wide open under the basket for a go-ahead layup with 1:24 remaining.
The Bulls answered with two Derrick Rose free throws after he drove into Paul Millsap, resulting in the Jazz's temporary starting power forward fouling out.
Utah, however, answered right back as Price found a driving Mehmet Okur for a dunk to put Utah ahead again at 96-95 with a minute to go.
Though they played a losing effort Sunday night in Denver, the Bulls fought back in the fourth quarter to down the Jazz. Chicago went on a 13-4 run to take a six-point lead midway through the final period.
But the Jazz rallied right back into the game, tying it at 87-all on a Ronnie Price jumper.
Utah, which has four home games this week, returns to action Wednesday at the ESA to face the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Jazz came out shooting cold, hitting just 43 percent of their shots while going into the locker room down 53-45.
Okur had 16 points in the first half, but that wasn't enough to counter big opening halves by Drew Gooden (16 points) and Derrick Rose (15) of the Bulls.
The Jazz made a 15-point turnaround in the third, going on a spurt that resulted in them taking a 73-66 lead after a 7-0 run. That streak included several fast-break dunks and some energetic defense by Utah.
