Imagine that there is an activity where no kid sits on the bench, where you learn teamwork, make friends and appreciate hard work. That activity exists, and it is marching band! Okay, I admit, we'd like to beat American Fork as well as achieve our potential, but as Mr. Hendricks says, nothing else matters as long as we have worked our hardest and performed our best.

Biography

Emily Chandler is one of those people who can blow and walk at the same time. She plays clarinet in the Davis High School marching band and loves being a part of those field shows.

Band season is such a big deal for me. It takes a lot of time. When you first start out in the marching band, you can't imagine what is going to happen to you. So that was the first thing I thought about when this contest came along.

Chandler is a junior, so I'm still deciding what I want to do. I like to do a ton of stuff, she says.

She is an avid reader and has a particular fondness for Jane Eyre and the books of Charles Dickens. I just love that time period, she says. In fact, she is writing a historical novel/murder mystery set in those times. I love history, but I also love math, and when she's not doing all that, she enjoys camping with her family.

She is the daughter of Reed and Susan Chandler of Kaysville and is the oldest of two other sisters and two brothers.
