VERNAL — Authorities are investigating the death of a 48-year-old man who was hit by a truck Friday night.

Uintah County Sheriff's Cpl. Brian Fletcher said deputies were called around 9:22 p.m. to a report of a truck striking a power pole at 1000 S. 1500 West in Vernal. When they arrived, deputies discovered that the truck, driven by a 24-year-old Vernal woman, had hit a pedestrian before striking the pole, Fletcher said.

The pedestrian, identified as Claye Robb, died at the scene.

Fletcher said his agency will release additional information about the crash as it becomes available. He did not say whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.
