Goeckeritz learned a lot about himself through filming "Uintah United," including an appreciation for the U that is barely seen from the freeway, the area and the current 1,400 residents who live there.
Filming for the project, which is Goeckeritz's second, took two years and cost $45,000, including equipment rentals, licensing fees, actors and costume design. Funding was provided by various sources, including Brigham Young University's Charles Redd Center for Western Studies, WSU and Uintah city. He earned upper-division history credits at WSU for his efforts and will be making the film available for purchase.
KUED plans to air the new film, documenting a portion of Utah's history, on television next year and the network station is currently playing Goeckeritz's first film, "Ogden: Junction City of the West."
