A fire at an abandoned motel in Salt Lake City is believed to have been started by homeless people living in the building, firefighters said.

The building near 300 North and 300 West broke out in flames just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. Luckily a fire station located nearby allowed a quick response so that no injuries occurred and nothing other than the abandoned building was damaged.

"We believe there were probably some homeless people living in the building and they had a fire that they used for cooking and staying warm inside," Salt Lake Fire spokesman Scott Freitag said.
