Peel away the factors that lead a child to juvenile delinquency or poor school performance and you may find a simple undiagnosed vision problem.

The Live With Vision Program is tackling the issue at Lincoln Elementary School in downtown Salt Lake City, where Wednesday morning Utah first lady Mary Kaye Huntsman talked to students about the importance of proper vision care.

Salt Lake City School District teamed up with EyeglasWorld/The LASIK Vision Institute to identify children at the school who need eyeglasses. Those glasses will be provided to children whose families can't afford them at no charge.

An estimated 10 million U.S. children have vision problems and 30 percent will not receive proper care, the program says. Further, 80 percent of juvenile offenders have undiagnosed vision problems, which impacts school performance and overall behavior.
