High school football playoff updates all evening long
We will be updating scores throughout the evening here. Games will be clickable on individual school pages with short summaries and a complete roundup of all the games will also be available as details come in from around the state.
5A PLAYOFFS
SKYLINE 31, LONE PEAK 3: The Eagles rolled past the Knights in the first round thanks to 355 yards on the ground. Lone Peak managed only 80 yards total. For Skyline, Algernon Brown had 130 rushing yards and two TDs. The Eagles advance to play Layton next week.
LAYTON 24, HUNTER 7: LaVaughn Jackson set the pace for Layton, finishing with 108 yards rushing on 19 carries and breaking a scoreless tie with a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter. Thomas Bryson stood out on defense, making 3.5 of the Lancers' seven team sacks.
JORDAN 36, SPANISH FORK 33: Jordan's powerful offensive line cleared the way for two fourth quarter rushing touchdowns by Cory Hunt, which helped protect a narrow lead. A recovered onside kick with 1:44 left in the game sealed the victory for the Beetdiggers. Spanish Fork quarterback Breck Lewis threw for five TDs in the losing effort.
SYRACUSE 42, KEARNS 18: The Titans made a big case for themselves as they stomped on Kearns in the playoff opener. Running back TJ Blickfeldt had 30 carries for 148 yards and 3 touchdowns for Syracuse. Defensively, Syracuse forced four turnovers which all converted into touchdowns.
