USU basketball: Team is 'ragged' in intrasquad scrimmage
Wednesday night, after watching the annual Blue-White scrimmage he was saying the complete opposite.
"We're ragged, we're nervous and we've got a lot of new people," Morrill said. "I was disappointed in how we played." Senior center Gary Wilkinson got only three shots off in the two halves and Morrill said that was because the guards are still learning the offense.
"That will be remedied," USU's veteran coach said, matter of factly. "He will get the ball." Perhaps the biggest bit of bad news, though, came when junior college transfer Stavon Williams suffered a dislocation of the pinky finger on his shooting hand. Morrill said the Aggies were going to count on the San Jacinto JC transfer to fill in the void left by the departed Jaycee Carroll.
The Aggies have little time to correct the problems Morrill said he's seen so far in the preseason. After another practice today, USU hosts Northwest Nazarene in an exhibition game Friday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night.
The regular season opener comes Nov. 14 at home against Montana State-Northern.
