A convicted killer who escaped from the Daggett County Jail is expected to plead to federal charges.

In court papers filed in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City on Monday, an attorney for Juan Carlos Diaz-Arevalo asked that his upcoming jury trial be stricken and a date set for a change of plea. It came on the same day that his co-defendant, Danny Martin Gallegos, pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge.

Gallegos and Diaz-Arevalo escaped from the Daggett County Jail in September 2007, leading police on a week-long manhunt. Gallegos was shot by police.

Both men have already pleaded guilty to state-level escape charges.
