"We feel it's clearly a situation where there'll be no child left behind," he said.
Hundreds of children were taken in the raid when authorities responded to a call from someone claiming to be a pregnant teenager trapped in an abusive, polygamous marriage. The call is being investigated as a hoax, but authorities claimed they found signs of abuse, including underage marriage, on the ranch.
That prompted a judge to order the removal of all of the children. They were returned two months later when the Texas Supreme Court ruled the state acted improperly and the children were not at immediate risk for abuse.
Only one child, a 14-year-old girl allegedly married at age 12 to FLDS leader Warren Jeffs, has been returned to foster care after a judge ruled her mother was unable to protect her from abuse. Six other children whom CPS sought to place in foster care were allowed to stay after their mothers struck deals with agency lawyers and signed family service plans.
"I'm not aware of any motions or petitions for the removal of any more children at this point," Crimmins told the Deseret News.
