Orem man accused of raping wife
The man, 25, and his wife had been separated for several months when he went to her home Saturday evening with malicious intent, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
The man ate dinner with his family, including three children, then they put the kids to bed and watched a movie. About 11 p.m., the man taped his wife's wrists and forced her to drink alcohol so she would pass out, according to the affidavit. When she didn't, he took her into the bedroom and threatened her with a razor knife.
He then tied her arms and legs to the corners of the bed and had sex with her against her will, the affidavit states. He later allegedly told police he knew he would have to use force, because she didn't want to be intimate with him and that she had a boyfriend.
After the assault, the man said he had originally planned to leave her tied up so she couldn't stop him from killing himself. However, he fell asleep before he could hurt himself, according to the affidavit. After two hours, the man's wife had worked free of the ropes, escaped the apartment and called police.
The woman told police the children had all been in the home sleeping, except the 4 year old, who had wandered into the bedroom during the assault, the affidavit states.
Police said the man admitted to planning the assault, then added that his only regret was passing out from drinking too much before he could kill himself. He was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of rape and aggravated kidnapping.
