Orem home invasion not random
Orem Officers were locked in a nearly four-hour standoff with individuals inside an apartment at 1127 W. 675 North, which began around 11 a.m. Thursday.
Police believed at least three of the individuals had brutally attacked residents of a home around 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards said three masked men armed with a handgun and baseball bat broke into the home at 1055 E. 800 North where five individuals ages 20 to 21 were sleeping. A 19-year-old man who tried to fight against the men was hit repeatedly with the bat.
The men stole electronics, computers, gaming systems and cell phones, then shoved the home residents into a bathroom and threatened to kill them if they called police.
After interviewing four males and an 18-year-old woman, police learned that 19-year-old Jacob Pele Falo, of Orem had previously purchased marijuana at the home and thought there would be additional drugs and money there, Edwards said.
Falo is currently wanted on a $250,000 warrant from Salt Lake, stemming from a parole violation from an aggravated robbery conviction.
Along with Falo, police also booked into jail 18-year-old Berniece Halalilo of Orem, who drove the car, and 18-year-old James Phillip Falo, also of Orem for allegations of aggravated robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of a handgun.
A 17-year-old juvenile male was taken to the Slate Canyon Detention Center, Edwards said.
