A Millcreek man faces assault and drug charges for spraying four SWAT officers with bear repellent during a search warrant service in January.

The officers were entering a home, near 300 East and Redondo Avenue in Salt Lake City, when the 50-year-old man sprayed them with the repellent, according to charges filed Thursday in 3rd District Court.

Inside the house, officers found marijuana, pipes, bongs, digital scales and a handgun, according to the charges.

The 50-year-old man faces four counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and two misdemeanor drug charges. Two other men also face drug charges in connection with the incident. It's unclear why prosecutors waited so long to file charges.
