Make a poster about the dangers of indoor radon, win a trip to Washington, D.C.

It may be that simple for the winner of a national radon poster contest sponsored by the National Safety Council and the Environmental Protection Agency. Children ages 9 to 14 are invited to take part in the contest. Each participant is allowed one entry, which is free and due by Oct. 15.

Poster topics include: "What is radon?"; "Where does radon come from?"; "How does radon get inside our homes?"; "Radon can cause lung cancer"; and "Test your home for radon."

Radon is a naturally occurring, invisible and odorless radioactive gas that at higher levels in homes can pose a health risk.

Last year's winner for Utah was Aly Wells, 14, a student at Farmington Junior High. The national winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington. There are cash awards for first- through third-place winners in Utah.

For more information about the contest, visit www.nsc.org/issues/radon. To learn more about radon, visit www.radon.utah.gov.
